Day One: LFW

The first day of London Fashion Week, and the shows proved that the bar has been raised again. From Bora Aksu's cute ant-themed show to Diana Vickers ripping it up at the Look Show, London proved once again that the Brit-pack really know how to put on a good performance.

In no particular order, here are the cream of the crop from the shows on Day One!

First up is the Look Show in the über-stylish Saatchi Gallery. Showcasing the best of the highstreet, Crystal Renn started the show in Warehouse, with Martine McCutcheon and Ali Bastian watching from the front row. Check out the beautiful Zara outfit (above left)! Diana Vickers (below right) performed in a gorgeous yellow Tata Naka dress and tassled Camilla Skargaard shoes, getting the crowd going with hits like "Once". You can see all the photos here.

Sass & Bide was at the Opera House, complete with the fashion elite appearing (including Julia Restoin Roitfield - daughter of French Vogue editor Ed Carine Roitfield - and model Jess Hart), and filled the show with incredible metals, silks and raffia trims. Corn rows, topknots and plenty of glitter were the order of the day (do I sense a S/S11 hair trend coming on? Paul Costelloe styled his show with huge beehive 'dos).

Bora Aksu definitely had the best theme of the day, with woollen ants (allegedly hand-crocheted by his grandmother in Turkey) adorning his models' hair. Sexy and feminine was the order of the day with Aksu's clothing (left) though; coiled, ruffled and piped dresses with silk, tulle and brocade patchworking. 1950's still seem to be on top, with the padding screaming 50's siren.

Hair and beauty spot:

Hannah Marshall revived crimping and made it cool again in her show, arguably her best yet - starting with a short film by Rankin, the show was strong and edgy, but with an edge of refinement from the designer. Infamous for wearing all black, we even saw a spot of colour for her S/S11 designs! Erin O'Connor was one of the first to congratulate.

Paul Costelloe (right) teamed his beehive'd hair with coral lips for a sultry look that I can see being everywhere next year.

Ashley Isham added a splash of brightness to London with primary-coloured eyeliner. Bold and brave, the colours were fantastic and I can definitely see it being a big hit on the highstreet.

Front Row:

PPQ had an array of popstars, including Paloma Faith, Jamelia and VV Brown gracing front row.

Sass & Bide had a contrast of characters, including rugby player Danny Cipriani and drag queen Jodi Harsh.

The front row at Hannah Marshall had the likes of Erin O'Connor, Amber Rose (Kanye West's ex) and the ever amazing Jimmy Choo.

Felder Felder had the fashion elite too, with Paloma Faith, Amber Rose and Coco Sumner front and centre (the models were sent down the runway to Coco Sumner's cover of "Born to be Wild" and leather and chiffon were top).

LFW best-dressed Day One:

Amber Le Bon (below right) was stunning in the ALICE by Temperley dress and an oversized Chloe cardigan, teamed with lustworthy Armani shoes. She posted this photo on Vogue's "Today I'm Wearing" blog!
